Healing

Each year I write a word that represents what I hope the following year will look like. I chose HEALING for 2023.

As I am healing physically after my ankle injury (clumsy giraffe moment), I have time to reflect on the internal healing of the year that passed eventfully.

Instead of trying to unpack all of the things that happened to me to update you, (although going to see Marina Abramovic show and meeting some extraordinary people deserves a mention), I would like to use this blog post as a reflection and invitation for you to reflect on your own time.

What does time mean to you?

Shaving time, video installation, 16 min loop, V.Exhibition in Room 1 Gallery, UoS, 2023)

We calculate life, measure it by giving numbers. We have expectations on how to pass time by constantly comparing each other to another human being, situations or life events. We have been taught since birth how to pass our time.

Speaking, eating and thinking, all of which we know it has been conditioned into us. Do you wonder what your true self might look like right now if you gave yourself permission to be who you are in your own natural time?

We do not have the same time nor we should measure it by limiting ourselves to it. Every event has its own natural course and to fully experience our own living, we shouldn't limit ourselves to "I'm too old" or "I don't have time" for the things that you are deeply passionate about.

Everybody has different cultural backgrounds, sets of chances, and sets of skills. We wouldn't have the same time even if we were given the same life tools because history (and I don't just mean art history here) helps us comprehend who we are in relation to where we have been and where we are going.

Rather than try to be on time, I choose to have fun while doing the longest thing I will ever do: living.

FUN is my word for 2024.

What is yours?
