First month of Uni

First month of uni I was changing my hairstyle so often, that I have been asked to show photo ID twice in one month of University of Suffolk, England. Apart from that, going in was not as scary as I thought. I had my buddy Carl from the college and he is one of the most outgoing person you could ever meet, so I quickly got to mingle with other students.

The teaching system can make you feel overwhelming at first as there are various modules with different goals to reach at the same time. We all have been given one theme for the modules - Hybridity. Our starting point is Collage. On top of that we have other modules including Drawing, Research and Context.

I personally don’t find it difficult to understand the requirements for each module, I think a lot of that is to do with the fact that I went to Suffolk New College first.

Me and Carl went back to SNC to do a little presentation about our studying experience to new students.

I miss my artist family already!

Talking about friendships, I have already made lovely connections here in University of Suffolk.

I am currently having a lot of fun in experimenting with whatever tutors are throwing at us. It is amazing how much I have learned already, not just in art practices, but about myself too.

One thing I have learned for sure, is that you can’t be good at everything in art, especially if you don’t enjoy it. But also, you will not know if you enjoy something in art if you don’t try it.

We are all different with our strengths and weaknesses.

Before I went to uni I disliked working with watercolours, now I have learned more about watercolours, I have practiced and destroyed about 10 stretched papers in a day (oops, now tutors will know where it has all gone) - I still dislike working with it.

I love how it looks like and I admire artists who work with watercolours, I am just not built a watercolour way myself as I don’t enjoy the process.

Fine art tutors of University of Suffolk are not forcing. There is no “my way is the only way” approach, because they all work as a team, we are becoming part of the team too.

Teachers are professional and supportive, allowing us to grow the direction we want to grow.

This is what I like about being a fine art student in University of Suffolk the best so far.

Jane Watt: This women is the reason I applied to UoS, she was the first tutor I have encountered on live drawing session in 2021, after that session I have decided my further education here.

There are many targets to reach, digital sketchbooks, essays and workshops, so much work alongside my other commitments in life, but somehow I feel free as an artist.

Looking forward to the the rest of course!
