Being a student is great!

“I don’t want to be seen as student or an amateur” - this is what I would have thought a few years ago when asked about my art background.

Ridiculous, I know, but that’s what I thought as an adult artist, exhibiting and selling my art at the time.

Since having done The Art and Design course in Suffolk New College I have opened myself up to new layers.

Being a student is great!

This September I have started a course in Fine Art at the University of Suffolk and already it has opened doors for me to learn new things, like firing raku in Butley Mills Studios.

This experience was organised by The Art Station, Saxmundham, and teaming up with the whole group of amazing creators made it all brilliant.

We had an opportunity to look around and inside of artists workshops. For me as an aspiring sculptor it was an extremely interesting tour. I couldn’t help but touch a few sculptures in there (don’t tell the artists).

We also got to put our hands on the process using in-print technique with organic objects. Master craftsmen Richard guided us throughout. I didn’t burn my hair, which is a bonus. (Thanks to Samira for lending me a scrunchie). It was a fun, exciting and an informative experience.

Here is my own little creation from the afternoon in Butley Mills Studios.
